Irma L. Bergsma, 88, of Waterloo died Friday, March 30, 2007, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born September 17, 1918 in Waterloo, daughter of Emil W. and Ida M. Manske Hellenschmidt.

She married James H. Bergsma on July 7, 1940, at Trinity Lutheran in Waterloo. He died May 27 1960.

Irma was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She was later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1932 and graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1937. She was employed for many years in the office of Dr. Bailey and Morrison. She was active in her church choir until her health declined. She was also a Sunday school teacher music leader in Sunday school and enjoyed serving coffee after church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandi Bergsma and Jean (Gale) Maddux, both of Waterloo; two grandsons, Martin (Mindy) Maddux of Des Moines, and Andrew (Kristen) Maddux of Largo, FL; a brother Roger (Carmen) Hellenschmidt of Waterloo; neices and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents, and infant brother.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity American Lutheran Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and also for an hour before services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Choir.
