CEDAR FALLS — Helen J. Crowell Kercheval, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at her daughter’s home.

She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Edward O. and Agnes K. Holiday Kern. She married Gerald Crowell and they later divorced. She married Fred F. Kercheval on Jan. 1, 1977, in Cedar Falls. He died Jan. 1, 2000.

Mrs. Kercheval graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1941 and attended Iowa State Teachers College and Gates Business College. She was employed with Joe Petersen Insurance Co. and later owned and operated Black Publishing Co.

Survived by a son, Jeffrey (Judith) Crowell of Orange, Calif.; two daughters, Claudia (Ron) Sheldon of Keswick, Va., and Gretchen Elliott of Cedar Falls; a stepdaughter, M. Andrea (Dennis) Zeimet of Surprise, Ariz.; a stepson, Eric (Carolyn) Kercheval of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Edward and Jack Kern; and two sisters, Gwen Davis and Mary Henderson.

Family-directed memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday at 310 N. Division St., home of Gretchen Elliott. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established in her name.
