HUDSON, IOWA — Ione S. Hayes, 93, of Papillion, Neb., formerly of Hudson and Cedar Falls, died Sunday, November 18, 2012, at the Hillcrest Cottages, Papillion, of natural causes.

She was born March 27, 1919, in Audubon, daughter of Clifford and Anna Tucker Scott. She married J.D. Hayes on May 8, 1945, in Washington, D.C. He died January 30, 2004.

Mrs. Hayes graduated from Viola Township School, Audubon County, in 1936, and later from Central City Community Business College, Des Moines. After 31 years she retired from Co-op of Hudson as office manager in 1981. She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES at the Pentagon. She was a member of Hudson Community Church, Hudson AMVETS, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Tuesday Study Club, and was past president of Hudson Community Church Women’s Group.

Survived by a son, Darrell “Dean” (Judy Hornor) of Bellevue, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Alan (Whitney Edwards) Hayes of Omaha, Nebraska, and Angie (Brad) Wilhelm of Wichita, Kansas; and three great-grandchildren,

Preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda and Susan; and brother, Darrell Scott

Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at Community Church of Hudson, with burial in Hudson Cemetery with military rites by Hudson AMVETS Post 82. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, and an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Alzheimer’s Association.
