Robert Edward Mullen, 88, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes. He was born December 10, 1918 in Waterloo, son of Thomas and Kathryn (Magner) Mullen.

He graduated from OLVA in 1936. He served in the army in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Georgia Mae Murphy on February 1, 1947 in Waterloo. She died June 29 1987.

He worked at the Waterloo Courier for a total of 42 years and retired as National Advertising Manager in 1983. He then worked for several years at Palace Clothiers.

Survivors include his son James (Anna) Mullen of Kentucky; three daughters: Patricia (John) Kerr of Cedar Rapids, Elizabeth Gossard of Clear Lake, and Mary Maggie (Jim) Majors of Houston; three grandchildren: Amanda Mullen, Daniel Mullen, and Jennifer (Jason) Wolrad; a brother-in-law Paul Larsen of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Loretta (Frank) VanEe and Arlene Larsen and a son-in-law John Gossard.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Edwards Catholic Church with entombment in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Covenant Foundation.
