Gerald Horton Cook, 87, of Waterloo died Sunday January 21, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1919 in Waterloo son of William A. and Lucile Horton Cook.

He married Mary E. Koster July 10, 1950 at St. Edwards Catholic Church Waterloo. He retired as Vice President of the National Bank of Waterloo in June 1984 after 47 years of employment. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from January 1942 to April 1946 including two years in the Aleutian Islands.

He was a member of the Waterloo Exchange Club Elks and American Legion. He had a life-long love for golf and traveling. He played golf for many years at Byrnes Park (now Irv Warren) and other Waterloo golf courses with friends family and in leagues. He and his wife were able to visit all 50 states many of them by RV. Camping in the desert hot springs areas of southern California was a particular favorite along with enjoying the game of desert golf.

He is survived by his wife Mary K. Cook; two sons James G. (Peggy) Cook of Goffstown, NH and William A. (Laura) Cook of Lakeville, MN; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; a brother William A. (Jewel) Cook of Hemet, CA; and a sister Lucetta Howard of Sandown NH.

He was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie L. Cook.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 24 at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Public visitation will be from 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and for an hour before services on Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the Waterloo Exchange Club for the prevention of child abuse.
