CEDAR FALLS — Lyle R. Michels, 71, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center, Waterloo, of cancer.

He was born Dec. 6, 1940, in Buchanan County, son of Raphael Joseph and Anna Mae Sprage Michels. He married Marcia Joe Hare on June 11, 1966, in Independence.

Mr. Michels graduated from Independence High School in 1960, then served in the U.S. Navy. In 1984 Hawkeye Tool & Die Inc. was founded in Jesup and he became CEO and president of the businesses.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Adam (Alison) of Independence and Lonny of Jesup; two grandchildren; a brother, Walter (Jean) of Phoenix; and four sisters, Loretta Michels of Phoenix, Bertha Sepulveda of Dixon, Ill., Rosalie Nielsen of Independence and Dorothy Dame of Winton, Calif.

Preceded in death by four brothers: Clement, Norman, Bernard and Ronald; and three sisters: Eveline Wingert, Margaret Jenkins and Shirley Michels.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Jesup Bible Fellowship, Jesup, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Military rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorial fund has been established for the Honor Flight program.
