OLDFATHER, WILBUR, BLACKSMITH, SCHARES, FROST, BLEVINS, RAHMILLER, HUEBSCH

Lynn B. Oldfather, 83, of La Porte City, formerly of Evansdale, died Friday, January 05, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born April 25, 1923, in Des Moines, son of Frank and Ina J. Wilbur Oldfather.

He married Edith L. Blacksmith December 20. 1943 in Volga. She died April 1 2006.

He was employed with Rath Packing Co. for 17 years and then Youngblut Construction for 20 years retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Army Airforce, serving during World War II as a tailgunner on a B-17.

Survivors include two sons, Tom (Becky) of Strawberry Point and Bill (Michelle) of Mount Auburn; three daughters: Nancy (Marvin) Schares of La Porte City, Kathy Frost of Gilbertville and Cindy Oldfather of Waterloo; 17 grandchildren;28 great-grandchildren; one brother Keith (Mary Lou) of Oelwein; two sisters; Jean (Melvin) Blevins and Vera Rahmiller all of Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by one sister Ethel Huebsch.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Waterloo and Evansdale AMVETS Posts 19 & 31. Public visitation will be from 3:00 8:00 p.m. Monday at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services on Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.
