HAROLD D. MATT

Harold D. Matt, son of Lee and Bertha Matt, was born near Troy, Iowa June 5, 1900, and departed this life Friday, Feb. 4, 1972, at Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo at the age of 71.

He was united in marriage to Lena Roberts on May 29, 1927. To this union were born two children, Robert and Nancy. Mr. Matt had spent 48 years as an Iowa educator. The past 28 years of his career were as Superintendent of Schools at LaPorte City.

He was a member of St. Paul UnitedUnited (err) Methodist Chhrch (sic: Church), Trowel Lodge No. 216 A.F. & A.M., and the LaPorte City Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lena; son Robert H., St. Louis, Missouri; daughter, Mrs. Dale (Nancy) Snyder, Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Bertha Matt of Bloomfield; two brothers, Hoyt of Ottumwa and Kenneth of Indianola, a sister, Mrs. Robert Peterson of Cedar Falls, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 7 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in LaPorte City and Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Troy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl O. Jensen and the Rev. Keith J.E. McClellan officiating. Interment was in the Troy Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
