Succumbs of 92

Services for a pioneer resident of Orange Township, Mrs. Mary Tannreuther, 92, of Rt. 1, will occur at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in South Waterloo Church of the Brethren in Orange Center.

The pastor, the Rev. Kent Naylor, will officiate. Burial will be in Orange Township Cemetery.

Mrs. Tannreuther entered Schoitz Memorial Hospital last August and moved in November to the Americana Nursing Center, where she died of pneumonia at 10:30 p.m. Monday.

The former Anna Mary Lichty, she was born August 11, 1875, in Orange Township to Hiram and Sarah Lichty, and attended Mount Morris, Illinois Academy and taught in Black Hawk County schools prior to her marriage May 30, 1897, to William O. Tannreuther. The Orange Center farm on which the couple resided had been owned by Mattias Miller, Mrs. Tannreuther's grandfather, and has been in the family since 1854.

Mrs. Tannreuther was a member of the Orange Garden Club, the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister.

Survivors are two sons: Orville L. of 6421 Kimball Avenue, who continues to reside on the home farm, and Dr. E. M. [Edgar] Tannreuther of Terre Haute, Indiana; a sister, Mrs. Grace Zuck, a resident of Allen Memorial Home; a brother, Arthur M. Lichty of LaVerne, California; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MRS. MARY TANNREUTHER

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Tannreuther, 92, a pioneer resident resident of Orange Township who died Monday, will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the South Waterloo church of the Brethren with Pastor Kent E. Naylor, officiating.

Burial will be at Orange Township cemetery. The casket will be taken to the church at noon Thursday from the Locke Funeral Home, where friends may call until service time. The casket will not be opened following the service.

Note: Social Security has her "Anna Tannreuther", one obit says "Anna Mary", and one says "Mary", a photo was labeled "Anna Mary Lichty Tannreuther", but her gravestone is inscribed "Mary A. Tannreuther". This researcher went with what is on the gravestone.
