Richard "Dick" Gordon Smith, 79, of Denver, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at his home in Denver.

Dick was born October 24, 1932, the son of William and Christine (Fouts) Smith in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended East High School in Waterloo.

On October 23, 1955, he was united in marriage to Peggy Aikey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked at Rath Packing until he was drafted into the Army. He served two years during the Korean War and then returned to Rath's where he remained for 32 years. During that time he was also employed by John Deere for a short time. Beginning in 1983, he worked for Medical Associates in maintenance until retiring in 1995.

Dick was a faithful, long time member of Trinity Bible Church in Cedar Falls. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing anything that was broken. He liked working on cars and spending time outdoors.

Dick is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Denver; two sons, Todd (Jeanne) Smith of Waverly and Tim (Sandie) Smith of Readlyn, two daughters; Terrie (Jerry) Dixon of Cedar Falls and Toni Andersen of California, ten grandchildren; Zach Smith, Eric McCool, Ashley McCool, Holly Schelle, Justin Schelle, Garrett Smith, Samuel Smith, Sawyer Smith, Spencer Smith, and Paul Anderson, one great grandchild; Emma Schelle, brother; Bill (Caral) Smith of Waterloo, sisters; Carla Pike of Waterloo, Connie Tarr of California.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Kenny, Chuck, Dan and Victor Smith, sisters; Betty Platt, Marie Wielach, Mary Smith and Deloris Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012, at Trinity Bible Church in Cedar Falls with Pastor Mark Holton officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Chapel Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and for an hour prior to services Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church or Allen Hospice. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver is in charge of the arrangements,
