CEDAR FALLS - Bessie Petersen, 99, of Hawley, Minn., formerly of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, April 14, 2012.

She was born Oct. 9, 1912, on the family farm near Stanley, daughter of Harold and Hazel Day Brownell. She married Elmer Petersen on Aug. 28, 1935. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Petersen graduated from Stanley High School and was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Iowa and Lysne Lutheran Church, Hawley.

Survived by a son, Jack (Phyllis) Petersen; a daughter, Joyce (Jim) Grier; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a stepgrandson; and numerous stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two brothers; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Petersen; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, is in charge of arrangements.
