Othmar M. “Ole” Mauer, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home after a brief illness. He was born May 4, 1923 in Staceyville, Iowa, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Adams) Mauer.

Ole married Ardis Andersen on June 19, 1948 in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death on July 21, 1975. He married Opal L. Bothwell on July 8, 1978 in Cedar Falls. Ole served in the US Army during WW II and was a mechanic at John Deere & Company for thirty years, retiring in 1976. He also farmed in Black Hawk County for many years. Ole was a member of the Cedar Falls Eagles Club and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Mauer, of Cedar Falls; a son, Michael Mauer, of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Rebecca (Bryan) Redenius, of Parkersburg, Iowa; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; seven brothers: Orville (Mary Lou) Mauer of Waterloo, Iowa, Dale (Theresa) Mauer of Staceyville, Iowa, Daniel (Dorothy) Mauer of Ottumwa, Iowa, Dean (Jean) Mauer of Riceville, Iowa, Darwin (Marlene) Mauer of Denver, Iowa, William (Darla) Mauer of Charles City, Iowa and Howard (Judy) Mauer of Waterloo; and a sister, Angie (Richard) Ginder of Staceyville, Iowa.

Ole was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife; a daughter, Linda Mauer; and three brothers, Roman and Arthur Mauer, and a brother in infancy.

Services will be 10:30 am Monday, October 6, 2008, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Sunday, October 5, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 4 pm Rosary Service and a 7:30 pm Vigil Service will be conducted. Visitation also one hour before service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family or St. Patrick Catholic Church.
