Cedar Falls - Kenneth A. Caines, 62, of Cedar Falls, died of heart failure on Monday, April 14, 2008, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was born June 29, 1945 in Audubon, Iowa, the son of Evan Thomas and Fern Garnett Kroger. Ken was later adopted by A. N. “Nory” and Edith Winifred (Roddis) Caines of Waterloo.

He married Linda Lee McFadden on December 18, 1965 at Grace Methodist Church in Waterloo, and they later divorced. Ken married Jane Galloway Gerkin, and they later divorced. Ken graduated from Waterloo West High School, attended the University of Iowa, and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. He worked at John Deere & Company in Waterloo for several years and later owned and operated Black Hawk Supply Company in Waterloo. Ken more recently was co-owner of Wood Component Technologies in Cedar Falls, retiring in 2006. He was a current board member of Goodwill Industries and was past president of the congregation and church council member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Ken also was past president of the Cedar Valley Manufacturers Association.

Survivors include his two daughters, Andrea Caines Garcia of Waterloo and Erica (Brian) Goetsch of Cedar Falls; his son, Brad Caines, of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Sienna Caines, and Veronice and Mario Garcia, all of Waterloo; three sisters, Judy Morris, Helen Cook, and Susan Cusmano, all of Waterloo; and his close friend for many years, Sally Morrow, of Cedar Falls.

Ken was preceded in death by his birth mother and his adoptive parents.

Services will be 12:00 pm Friday, April 18, 2008, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with interment at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Bremwood Lutheran Services in Waverly, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, or Goodwill Industries.
