Donald E. Newberry, 77, died at his home on Saturday, September 1, 2006. He was born July 7, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Elwood and Gladys (Rogers) Newberry.

Don married Dorothy A. Yount on June 17, 1951 at Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He graduated from Waterloo West High School and Iowa State University, with a degree in Dairy Industry. Don served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He joined Magnus Cryberg at the Cedar Falls Dairy and later in 1951 became co-owner. The dairy later merged with Brunskill Farms forming Daisy Dairy. After acquiring several dairies in the area, he operated seven Daisy Maid stores. After selling the businesses, he opened Newberry’s Real Ice Cream at 1821 Main St. in Cedar Falls, retiring in 2005 due to ill health.

Don was a charter member of the Cedar Falls Jaycees, a Gold Coat President of Cedar Falls Sertoma, member of the Cedar Falls Milk Dealers, member of the Cedar Falls/Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, and was past president of the Black Hawk County Dairy Council.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Cedar Falls, a son, Timothy Newberry, and a daughter, Paula Newberry, both of Scottsdale, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Interment will be at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home, and one hour before service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
