John Allen Padget Sr., 76, of Waterloo, died Friday, September 14, 2012 at home.

He was born on September 14, 1936 in Waterloo, son of Jeannette and Howard Padget. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1954. He married Anna Marie Vote on September 22, 1956 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Mr. Padget served in the National Guard and was called into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was stationed at Fort Riley, Lawrence, Kansas.

He retired as an electrician in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers where he received his fifty-five year pin.

He was a faithful member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church.

John is survived by his wife, three daughters Kim (Grant Veeder), Julie Padget, and Susan Padget, all of Waterloo and a son John Padget Jr. (Marla) of Cedar Falls, and six grandchildren: Brandon Padget, Arthur Padget, Ryan Veeder, Sean Veeder, Emily Padget, and Elizabeth Padget.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church with burial at Mount Vernon Township Cemetery with military rites by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19, Evansdale Amvets Post 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard.

Visitation: 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for an hour before the service at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice.

John was a devoted family man and will be sorely missed. He was very proud of his military service and his union membership. His passions were playing golf, woodworking, helping family and friends and his church.
