Bernita G. Coffin, was born October 19, 1912, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Sophia (Ihde) Buhman. Bernita died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas, at 88 years of age.

She married Edward Mulgrew on July 20, 1932 in Dyersville, Iowa. He died on October 6, 1944 in Germany, during WW II. Bernita married Arthur L. Coffin on November 6, 1945 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1992. She attended Dyersville High School and volunteered for many years at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and for charities in Alamo, Texas.

She is survived by her children: Marilyn Kniss of Ames, Iowa, Beverly Anders of Grand Island, Nebraska, Edward Mulgrew of Los Cruces, New Mexico, Richard Mulgrew of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Karen Schultz of The Villages, Florida, Janet Padden of Waterloo, Larry Coffin of Waterloo, Greg Coffin of Cedar Falls and Steve Coffin of Waterloo; twenty-nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, and a brother, Virgil Buhman of Lewiston, Idaho.

Bernita was preceded in death by both of her husbands and her parents; a grandson, Michael Anders; a great-grandson, Zachary Covert; three sisters, Jeraldine Schmelzer, Mildred “Mickey” Daily and Margaret Buhman, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Mulgrew.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, may 4, 2001 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

A memorial fund will be established.
