Harry L. Nissen, 93, of Cedar Falls, died of a head injury from a fall, on Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. He was born November 23, 1912 in rural New Hartford, Iowa, the son of Louis and Carrie (Gram) Nissen.

Harry married Viola Webrand on September 2, 1939 in Cedar Falls. He was a graduate of both New Hartford High School and Hemphill Diesel School in Chicago, Illinois.

Harry was a service repairman for a few years at the Webrand John Deere Tractor Dealership in Reinbeck, Iowa, and a tool maker for 33 years at Viking Pump Company in Cedar Falls, retiring in 1976. He loved to fish and to work with wood. Harry made china cabinets, cupboards, shelves, coffee tables, and other items for his home, family and friends. After retirement, he and Viola purchased a home on Lake Kabatogama, near International Falls, Minnesota, where for 20 years they spent their summers fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Viola, of Cedar Falls; his son, Dennis (Carol) Nissen of Luck, Wisconsin; six grandchildren: Kenneth Bunz of Hudson, Iowa, Larry (Cindy) Bunz of Dysart, Iowa, Brian (Chris) Bunz of Reinbeck, Iowa, Chad (Holly) Bunz of North Carolina, Richard (Renee) Nissen of Durant, Iowa, and Rebecca (Danny) Pearce of Frederic, Wisconsin; fourteen great-grandchildren: Jerry, Jacy, Austin, Jackson, Ashley and Christopher Bunz, all of Dysart, Mitchel Bunz of Reinbeck, Janice and Alex Bunz of North Carolina, Corrie, Danielle and Kaitlyn Pearce of Frederic, Wisconsin, and Melanie and Matthew Nissen of Durant; and a special niece, Lillian Shoemaker, of Cedar Falls.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janice Bunz in 1999; a brother, Walter Nissen; and six sisters: Katherine Saul, Jennie Gersema, Mary Aleman, Florence Kafer, Anetta Malin and Gertrude Sands.

Funeral services were Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with interment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls.

A memorial fund will be established.
