John S. Lichty, 80, of Waterloo died Monday, June 11, 2007 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born April 6, 1927 in Orange Township son of John D. and Belle Smith Lichty.

He married Mary J. McDermott February 5, 1948 in Waterloo. John graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1945 and was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a truck driver for Admiral Merchants Takin Brothers Freight Lines Kroblin Transportation System and H&W Motor Express for 41 years retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife four sons: Bob (Carolyn) of Menomonie, WI, Don (Mary Jo) of Cary, NC, Jim (Anni) of Parnell, and Dan (Kristy) of Evansdale; five daughters: Katie (Bob) Van Erem, Margaret (John) McCoy, and Brigid (Tim) Knipp, all of Waterloo, Patty (Gene) Reuter of Cedar Rapids, and Teresa Kaye of Traer; 27 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four sisters: Betty Phillips of Rapid City, SD, Lorene Dobson of Cohise, AZ, Mavis Loonan of Ames, and Helen (Ray) Cockerham of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Timmy Knipp and John Kaye Jr., and a son-in-law John Kaye Sr.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Public visitation will be from 4:00 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice.
