WATERLOO - Joseph Mellen, 83, of Moberly, Mo., formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, of at home natural causes.

He was born Feb. 3, 1916, in Bellville, Kan., son of Andrew and Arminta Stilwell Mellen. He married Harriet P. Bandfield on June 13, 1941, in Waterloo. She died in 1984.

Mr. Mellen retired from Orscheln Co. as a press operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by two sons, Larry of Fulton, Mo., and Lynn of Keyville, La.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Lester of Tucson; and special friend, Judy Kirchhoff of Renick, Mo.

Preceded in death by five stepbrothers, Leon, William, David, Earnest and Robert Fike.

Services were Tuesday at Cater Funeral Chapel, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, both in Moberly.
