Kenneth L. Smith - August 13, 1935 - June 3, 2007

Kenneth L. Smith 71, of Evansdale, died Sunday June 3, 2007, at home of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 13, 1935 in Smithfield Township rural Fayette, the son of Russell C. and Cecilia Roberts Smith.

He married Martha Messerli on Nov. 24, 1956 in Yuma AZ. She died Aug. 30 1989. He married Dorothy Payne on Aug. 29 1990 in Waterloo. He was a graduate of Oelwein High School in 1955.

Mr. Smith was employed with John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo for 30 years, retiring in April of 1990. He served in the United States Marines as a Private and also for 3 years as a reserve.

Survived by his wife Dorothy of Evansdale; two sons, Steven (Mary) of Strawberry Point and Robert (Chris) of New Hartford; a daughter Gayle (Bruce) Smith Thompson of Philadelphia PA; 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother DeWayne Smith; two grandchildren, Collin Smith Levin and Travis Vaughn.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Crossroads Assembly of God Church with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation also one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
