EVANSDALE - Jesse M. Hicks, 79, of 125 Hansen Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of congestive heart failure.

He was born April 18, 1920, in Wadena, son of Lucian and Ellen Poor Hicks. He married Maxine G. Holtzman on Jan. 16, 1947, in Fayette.

Mr. Hicks retired from Rath Packing Co. in 1982 after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by his wife; a son, Randy Jesse of Waterloo; three daughters: Diana Thomas of Waterloo, Carol Williams of Independence and Janet Bergan of Evansdale; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Joe of Oelwein; and a sister, Mary Ellen Zander of Tripoli.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Wilson and Lucille McLavey.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Evansdale, with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Garden, rural Oelwein. Friends may call for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Floral Hills Chapel, rural Oelwein, is in charge of arrangements.
