Reherda "Ree" W. Cole, 97, of Sumner, Iowa and formerly of Cedar Falls, died Friday, January 25, 2002, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner. Ree was born June 17, 1904 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Ward and Lucy (King) Groom.

She married Eldon “King” E. Cole on August 22, 1943 at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1976. Ree was a graduate of the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis and was a nurse at the University of Northern Iowa Student Health Center for many years, retiring in 1975. She was a past member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Ree was also a member of the Cedar Falls American Legion Auxiliary, the Cedar Falls Woman’s Club and the UNI Faculty Dames.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Cole and his wife Cherryl of Sumner; a step-daughter, Jean Hauser and her husband Jack of Allyn, Washington; three grandchildren, Holly Schemmel, Trent Cole and Jessica Julius; nine step-grandchildren: John Hauser and Joan Crowe, Jim, Larry, David and Susan Beall, Richard Ogilvy, Kathy Lynch and Ann Skaugset; five great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and a step-brother, Vaughn Groom and his wife Charlene of Coral Gables, Florida.

Ree was preceded in death by her husband and parents; two step-daughters, Ruby Beall and Doris Ogilvy; one step-great-grandson, Andrew Beall; a sister, Narri Long and a brother, Douglas Groom.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2002 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home & Cremation Service with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family.
