Marcia Jean Nelson was born January 26, 1935, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Leona (Watson) Owen. Marcia died Sunday, January 14, 2001, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 65 years of age.

She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and East High School in Waterloo.

Marcia married Theodore C. Nelson on October 20, 1973 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She was a waitress and later the manager of the Sky Room at Black’s Department Store for 15 years, and was a waitress at Happy Chef for 4 years, retiring in 1983. Marcia was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls and the Eagles Auxillary in Waterloo. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially in her garden, and helped her husband Theodore with the farming and their livestock.

She is survived by her husband Theodore, of Cedar Falls; her son, James Compton of Gower, Missouri; a step-daughter, Kimberly Bergman and a step-son, Steven Nelson, both of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; three brothers: Arthur Owen of Jesup, Iowa, Michael Owen of St. Croix, Wisconsin and David Owen of Evansdale, Iowa and two sisters, Patricia Lillard of Waco, Texas and Colleen Rice of Waterloo.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James and Robert Owen and two sisters, Mary Spore and Donna Dietz.

Funeral services were10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to Sartori Skilled Nursing and Cedar Valley Hospice.
