HENNESSY, HALVERSON, ACKERMAN, WERTZ

Francis E. Hennessy, 89, presently of Ennoble Manor Care Center, Dubuque, and formerly of Waterloo, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at St. Patrick Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Daniel Knepper officiating. Following the Mass, military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Graveside services will be at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo, on Monday, June 25, at 11:30 a.m. Friends may call at 10 a.m. Friday until the time of service at the church. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Dubuque, is entrusted with arrangements.

Francis was born on Oct. 10, 1922, in Waterloo, the son of James and Clara (Halverson) Hennessy. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Waterloo. He served as a Pharmacist Mate 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946.

Francis then married Helen Betty Ackerman on April 23, 1946, at St. Mary's Church, Waterloo, where they were lifelong parishioners. Francis and Helen celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in April.

He worked for Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, for 39 years. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post No. 138. Francis was a Legion of Honor member in the Catholic Order of Foresters, serving as financial secretary at St. Mary's Court No. 1234 for 30 years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Helen Hennessy; his daughter, Patricia (Dr. Thomas) Wertz; four grandchildren, Brian (Sheila), Timothy, Jennifer (Dr. Thomas) Dillon, and Dr. Joseph (Dr. Maureen) Wertz; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Morgan; and a brother, Robert (Alice) Hennessy of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to the Francis Hennessy Memorial Fund.

The family wishes to thank the Emergency Room staff at Finley Hospital; the staff at Sunset Park and Ennoble Manor; and Dr. Phillip Leeson for their exemplary care.
