Andrew D. “Andy” Sergeant, 85, of Hudson, died of natural causes on Friday, April 11, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He was born October 14, 1922 in Waterloo, the son of Floyd and Helen (Hasler) Sergeant. Andy married Dorothy Degener on September 25, 1947, and they later divorced.

He married Arlene Brandhorst Schulz on July 12, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson. Andy was a graduate of Hudson High School and served with the US Navy during WW II. He worked for John Deere & Company in Waterloo for thirty-three years, retiring in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of Hudson; two sons, Andrew Sergeant, Jr. and Leslie (Linda) Sergeant, both of Waterloo; a daughter, Nancy (Larry) Lunde, of Waterloo; a step son, Duane (Joyce) Schulz, of Leawood, Kansas; two step daughters, Shirley (Ron) Pries of Waterloo and Elaine (Coy Hellard) Peterson of Taylorsville, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty LaMaster, of Catonsville, Maryland.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother and sister, both in infancy.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, April 14, 2008, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson, with interment at Hudson Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by Hudson American Legion Post 559 and Hudson AMVETS Post 82. Visitation will be 6—8:00 pm Sunday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
