Arthur H. Kirchoff, 83, of Waterloo died Tuesday December 5, 2006 at Ravenwood Health Care Center.

He was born February 4, 1923, in Janesville son of Henry F. and Ida Zacharias Kirchhoff. He graduated from Janesville High School.

He married Margery Elizabeth Schmitz, on April 22, 1947 in Waterloo. She died April 22, 1995. Arthur served in the 149th Combat Engineering Co. in the U.S. Army during World War II. He later worked at Rath Packing Plant and farmed in Black Hawk County.

Survivors include four sons: Larry (Joan) of Vermont, Kevin (Romona) of Waterloo, James (Cindy) of Evansdale, and David (Michelle) of Readlyn; two daughters, Suzzanne (Pat) Schaefer and Karen (Gary) Hibben both of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren: Tim Kirchoff and fiance Tiffany, Bonnie Kirchoff, Jennifer Kirchoff, Melissa (Jason) Smith, Brian (Lindsey) Schaefer, Justin Kirchoff, Caitlin Kirchoff, Nicholas Kirchoff, Travis Kirchoff, Nicole Kirchoff, Andrew Kirchoff, Jessica Hibben, and Joshua Hibben; three great-grandchildren: Maxwell Smith, Carter Smith, and Lillian Smith; one sister, Helen Bales of Waverly.

He was preceded by one granddaughter, Samantha Kirchoff; by three brothers: Henry Kirchoff Jr., Walter W. Wilkens, and August E. Kirchoff; eight sisters: Dorothy A. Wedemeier, Irene Matthias, Lucille Jungling, Emma Kirchoff, Bertha Edler, Elsie Louise Cook, Elizabeth Rogers, and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 138 and the VFW Post 1623. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Alzheimers Association.
