DREWES, BOCKHAUS, SHEPARD, KENT, SMEDLEY, LAUTERBACH, MOORE

Garold H. (Jerry) Drewes, 80, of Waterloo died Saturday July 21, 2012 at Allen Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Garold Herman Drewes was born March 15, 1932 in Artesian, Iowa the son of August and Clara Bockhaus Drewes. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

Jerry married Ila Shepard October 6, 1956 at Central Christian Church in Waterloo. He worked for John Deere for 26 years retiring in 1991. He also had worked for Rath Packing Co. and Wilbert Vault Co.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and a member of Gilbertville American Legion Post 714. Family and friends were an important part of Jerry’s life. He enjoyed dancing, camping, crafts, and spending time with his children and grandchildren and being involved in their school sports and activities.

Jerry is survived by his wife Ila of Waterloo, a son Darrel Drewes (Roxanne Hemmer) of Waterloo, daughter Michelle (Ken) Kent of Reinbeck, daughter Mary Smedley of Waterloo, son Roger Drewes of Waterloo, and daughter Dorothy Drewes (Joel Hundley) of Waterloo.

He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren: Gregory (Toni) Drewes and their children Tristan and Chloe; Tracy (Rich) Billmeyer and their children Jom, Wolfgang, and Raine; Jacki (Duston) Smith and their children Wesley, Lexi, and Riley; Echo Kent (Justin Beatty); Kylie Jo Smedley; Jordyn Smedley; Ryan Drewes (Beth Schmidt); Kayla (Kevin) Ackerson and their children Brilee and Hollyn. He is survived by three brothers: Wilbert (Maria) Drewes of Waterloo, Lavern (Connie) Drewes of Waterloo, and Ronald Drewes of Waverly; and a brother in law Charles Shepard of Waterloo.

Jerry is preceded in death by his sisters Bernita (Ait) Lauterbach and Luella (George) Moore, brother in law Chester (LaVerne) Shepard, and sister in law Marg Shepard.

Services 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 4031 Lafayette Rd in Evansdale. Visitation 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Locke Funeral Home. Burial at Cemetery Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa. Memorials to the family.
