WATERLOO — Joan Katherine Kruse, 69, of Hermann, Mo., formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at her home after a two-year battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 11, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., daughter of the late Frank and Caroline Kolasch Wolfbauer. She married Don Kruse Aug. 27, 1966, at Ephipany of Our Lord Catholic Church in St. Louis.

She was a veterinary assistant at Klima Small Animal Clinic in Waterloo for 13 years before moving to Hermann, Mo., with her husband and family in 1973. Mrs. Kruse was co-founder and owner of the Downtown Deli & Custard Shoppe in Hermann for 16 years. On July 1 of this year, the business was sold. Mr. Kruse was a sports writer for the Waterloo Courier from 1973 to 1991.

Survived by her husband; four daughters: Kelly (Robert) Bracilano of Virginia Beach, Va., Karen (Patrick) Sullivan of Waterloo, Kimberly Kruse (significant other, Robert Meyer) of Falls City, Neb., and Kristine (Craig) Hemeyer of Hermann; a son, Bryan Kruse (significant other, Erica Britain) of Hazelwood, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Nicholas Bracilano of Virginia Beach, Va., Carlie, Jordyn and Grace Sullivan, both of Waterloo, Derek, Drew and Danielle Bippes, all of Falls City, Neb., Carter and Kampbell Hemeyer of Hermann, Mo., and Kemper and Mason Kruse of Hazelwood, Mo.; and two sisters, Sr. Carolyn Wolfbauer of Sparkill, N.Y., and Judy (Daniel) Millott of Miami.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. George Catholic Church, Hermann, Mo., with burial in St. George Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m Wednesday at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, Mo.
