WATERLOO — Richard E. Herman, 82, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 12, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Waterloo, son of Gustav and Rose Morkal Herman. He married Ruby A. Baker Parker Aug. 26, 1994, in Waterloo.

He worked for Young Coal Co. for 33 years. He also worked for the Sheriff’s department in Clinton and was a local stock car driver. Mr. Herman served in the U.S. Iowa Army National Guard for two years. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Debra Tompkins of Waterloo and Rose (Jerry) Rasmussen of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sons, Rick of Waterloo and Dick (Kathy) of Huxley; a stepdaughter, Kenda Stellges of Troutdale, Ore.; two stepsons, Wayde (Rhonda) Baker of Kennewick, Wash., and Steven (Wilma) Baker of Cottage Grove, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Albert of Evansdale and Ewald “Junior” of Alberton, Mont.

Preceded in death by four sisters: Violet Herman, Dora McClintock, Christina Barber and Sylvia Shatto.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, and also for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
