WATERLOO, IOWA — Eunice Emery Loomer, 97, of Phoenix, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, July 2, of natural causes.

She was born November 5, 1914, in Somerset, Pennsylvania, daughter of Goldie and George Emery. She married Fred Ray Loomer on February 10, 1945, in Washington, D.C. He died October 13, 1977.

Mrs. Loomer graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh in 1921. She attended Carnegie Institute of Technology and was an engineer at Jones and Laughlin Steel Co. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. The couple owned Fuel Oil Service Co., and she later owned and operated Rainbow Ceramics. Mrs. Loomer was a member of Grace United Methodist Church while residing in Waterloo. She was an active member of many organizations including the Waterloo Elklets, Waterloo Woman’s Club, White Shrine, Daughters of the Nile, and Order of the Eastern Star.

Survived by two daughters, Barbara (Dion) Temple of Phoenix and Patricia (John) Michener of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a son, Richard (Mary) of Waterloo; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Emery.

Memorial services will be held in Phoenix and Costa Mesa. Graveside inurnment 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or a charity of donor’s choice.
