WATERLOO, IOWA — Mary “Jean” Cook, 91, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 25, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of natural causes.

She was born July 9, 1920, in New Hampton, daughter of Peter and Irene Canty Binek. She married William S. Cook Sept. 10, 1941, in St. Joseph, Mo. He died Feb. 26, 1984.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1938. The couple owned Bill’s Better Buy Market on Williston and Washington Streets in the 1960s. She retired from food markets.

Survived by four sons: Ron (Marilyn) of Camarillo, Calif., Bill (Heidi) of Heyworth, Ill., Tom Cook of Cedar Falls and John Cook of Waterloo; two daughters, Jean (John) Morgan of Waterloo and Lori (Marty) Sliekers of La Porte City; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roscoe Binek of Verndale, Minn.

Preceded in death by a grandson; two sisters, Nelleta “La” Ferrell and Shirley Prevas; and a brother, Joe Binek.

Family graveside services: will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.
