ELK RUN HEIGHTS, IOWA - Franklin "Woody" Sanderson, 75, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born May 6, 1937, in Waterloo, son of Earl and Dorothy Nichols Sanderson. He married Dixie Lee Clemmensen on Aug. 12, 1954, in Arkansas. She died in 1995. He then married Judith Ann Cooper on Feb. 17, 2000, in Waterloo.

Mr. Sanderson served in the U.S. Marines Corps and had worked as a machinist at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 32 years, retiring in 1987.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Rocky (Colette) Sanderson of Steamboat Rock, Daniel (Sherry) Sanderson of Fairbank and Greg A. Cooper of Oskaloosa; three daughters, Cindy (Stan Seda) Sanderson of Waterloo, Chris (Bill) Cheeseman of La Porte City and Michelle (Jeff) Lane of Gretna, Neb.; two brothers, Michael (Nila) of Arkansas and Gene (Heather) of Wellsburg; seven sisters, Ila (Del) Akers, Dixie (Gary) Luck, Kathryn "Judy" Kelly, Harvaleen (Harry) Spettel, Sharon Sanderson, Pattie (Jim) Sanderson and Colleen Sanderson, all of Waterloo; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Sanderson Phondeth; two brothers, Gordon and Bobby; and a sister, Kathy Sanderson.

Services will be Monday at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and for an hour before services Monday at the chapel.
