Alice Eldridge Refshauge Vitacco died at home in Pasadena, Md., on May 14, 2012. She was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Cedar Falls. She was a member of Methodist Church and graduated Iowa State Teachers College High School in 1939.

In 1941 Alice entered the Washington Boulevard School of Nursing, Chicago, and in 1942 the school merged with Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where Alice graduated in 1943.

On Nov. 14, 1943, Alice married Salvatore Joseph Vitacco Jr. at Holy Name Cathedral, Chicago. Alice was assistant supervisor at Wesley and also was employed by several Wesley doctors from 1943 to 1944. Alice followed her Wesley nursing work as a Public Health Nurse for the city of Chicago.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathie Gerlach and her husband Charles; a son, Frank Vitacco and his wife Sandra; her sister, Agnes Sayles of Boone, N.C.; her brother, Lyle Refshauge and his wife Darlene of Dike; and three grandchildren.
