WATERLOO — Kay Buss Straw, 59, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 of a homicide.
She was born Feb. 1, 1953, in Guthrie Center, daughter of Richard and Charlotte White Kness. She was a common law spouse to Terry Allen Buss who died December 11, 2002.
Mrs. Straw was a clerk with St. Vincent De Paul.
Survived by a son, Randy (Robin) Barnes Jr. of Carlisle; two daughters, Tammy Barnes of Waterloo and Marlene (Undray Reed) Buss of Waterloo; a stepson, Terrill Buss of Aplington; three stepdaughters, Janette Buss of Aplington, Diane (Doug) Elder of Waterloo and Cheryl Buss of Parkersburg; a foster mother, Pat Palmer of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Dylan Barnes, Patrick Weinder, Sierra Barton, Justin Barnes, Dayton Buss, Deondre Reed and Tayshawn Reed; six stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; five brothers; five sisters; a foster brother, Kevin (Kathi) Caroll of Waterloo; and a foster sister, Linda Johnston of Hudson.
Preceded in death by her parents; a stepson-in-law, Brian Elder; a brother; two sisters; and her foster father, Ivan Palmer.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Home on South Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.

A Waterloo man suspected of shooting his fiance and killing her mother has been charged with murder.
The shooting injured Marlene Buss, 33, and killed her mother, 59-year-old Kay Straw.
Buss was shot three times, and the suspect attempted to shoot another man who was in the house at the time.
