CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — Harry E. Petersen Jr., 61, of Cedar Falls, died at home Thursday, June 7, 2012.

He was born December 4, 1950, in Waterloo, son of Harry and Karen Christensen Petersen. He married Cindy Staley June 30, 1973, at St. Timothy United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls.

Mr. Petersen graduated from Cedar Falls High School and Hawkeye Institute of Technology. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and was a supervisor in Engineering Services at John Deere Power Systems, retiring on April 13, 2010. He was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49, the VFW, H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) and the Cedar Valley Corvette Club.

Harry is survived by his wife; a daughter, Kathryn (Ben) Handfelt of Chicago; a granddaughter, Lily Handfelt of Chicago; a brother, Philip Petersen of Cedar Falls; and three sisters, Becky Vauthier of Waterloo, Audrey Petersen of Cedar Falls, and Annette (Dennis) Madiska of Berthoud, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Matthew Madiska; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Vauthier.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, with military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Inurnment will be at Garden of Memories in Waterloo at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
