WATERLOO — Cody J. Kruse, 21, of Waterloo, formerly of Hudson, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012

He was born July 28, 1990, son of Stephanie R. Freeland in Waterloo.

Cody graduated from Hudson High School in 2009, where he played football and helped with the food drive for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. He worked at Godfather’s Pizza, Waterloo and Waverly, and currently was employed at the Target Distribution Center, Cedar Falls.

Survived by: his mother of Waterloo; maternal grandmother, Niceta (Rick) Sproul of Cedar Falls; maternal grandfather, Mike (Brenda) Freeland of Hudson; maternal great-grandmother, Mary Freeland of Waterloo; maternal great-grandmother, Marie Clark of Cedar Falls; aunts, Heather Freeland of Waterloo, Angie (Brian) Carmichael of Aplington and Amanda Freeland of Hudson; and cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Preceded in death by: paternal grandmother, Nancy Kruse; and maternal great-grandfathers, Donald Clark and Vernon “Mick” Freeland.

Services: 3 p.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Brandon (lil bro) and Mazie (lil sis) Gilfillan, his cousins, and their mother, Heather Freeland (his second mom), played an important role in Cody’s life.
