WATERLOO — Arthur H. Gray, 96, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

He was born in McIntire in 1916, son of Arthur and Thyra Hytland Gray.

Mr. Gray graduated from high school in New Market. He took part in the Civilian Conservation Corps. During World War II, he worked in the defense industry as a plastics technician. He purchased a type setting business in Waterloo, which became Art Gray Typography in Cedar Rapids. He also worked with Julin Printing Co., Monticello, and opened J & A Printing, Cedar Rapids, in 1995.

Survived by his wife, Betty Bucknell Gray; his children with Alice Jonkeer, Cheryl (Robert) Evans, Lucinda (Loren) Burkhalter and Rex Gray; two stepsons Greg (Nancy) Krejci and Jeff (Mary) Krejci; seven grandchildren, Gayla (John) Singleton, Andrew Evans, Christopher (Mandy) Evans, Timothy (Kim) Burkhalter, Kristen (Mark) Sydness and Julie Burkhalter; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Wallace; and a sister, Beulah Gray.

Celebration of life visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, with burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to a hospice organization or charity of donor’s choice.
