WATERLOO — Dr. Jean Sara LePoidevin, 89, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012.

She was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Racine, Wis., to Harry R. and Ida Gullickson LePoidevin. She earned her undergrad degree and doctorate in medicine from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Dr. LePoidevin moved to Waterloo in 1950 where she practiced medicine until her retirement. She was the first female chief of staff at St. Francis Hospital, Waterloo, and one of the first women in the nation to hold that title. She also was a member of the Waterloo Elks Club. Following her retirement, Dr. LePoidevin moved to Bradenton, Fla.

Preceded in death by a sister, Gwyn C. (LaVerne) Laustsen of Aberdeen, S.D.; and a brother, John S. (Patricia) of Racine.

Private services: will be held at the LePoidevin family plot in Mound Cemetery, Racine.

Throughout her life Jean was dedicated to raising, training and breeding English Cocker Spaniels and was an active member of the English Cocker Spaniel Club of America and the Waterloo Kennel Club.
