WHITTINGTON, GROFF, CARDIS, CUMMINGS

William "Bill" Whittington, age 58, of Waterloo, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on Thursday, April 19, 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge, with visitation from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at the funeral home in Fort Dodge.

Bill was born on Oct. 2, 1953. His parents are Paul and Anna Mae Whittington of Fort Dodge. Bill attended St. Edmond High School and graduated in 1972. Bill married Cherri Groff on Nov. 17, 1973, at Sacred Heart Church. Soon after they moved to Waterloo and raised their two children. Bill was a longtime employee of the John Deere Engine Works working as a CNC machinist. After thirty years, Bill retired in 2005, and spent his retirement doing many of his favorite things.

Bill enjoyed gambling, hunting, card playing, fishing and golfing. He was also an avid follower of the Hawkeyes and Cubs. Bill was very dedicated to his family and loved spending time with them. Bill made everyone feel special and he always made you laugh. He was known for having a very unselfish nature and was more than willing to help a good friend or a stranger he just met. His generous, friendly and positive personality blessed him with many longtime friends and lasting relationships.

Bill is survived by his wife; his parents; his daughter, Rachel (Bryan) Cardis of Indiana, and son, Travis (Courtney) Whittington of Des Moines; his brother Tom (Joan) Whittington of California, and sister Judy (Tim) Cummings of Texas; brothers-in-law Michael (Kelly) Groff and Patrick Groff, both of Fort Dodge; Aunt Bernice Whittington of Fort Dodge; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
