LA PORTE CITY — Richard F. Monaghan, 81, of La Porte City, died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo.

He was born July 23, 1930, in Ryan, son of Francis and Anna Flannigan Monaghan.

He married Virginia Ann Keegan on Dec. 28, 1955, in Oelwein. She died Dec. 18, 2001. He then married Eva Saulsbury on Sept. 28, 2003, in New Orleans.

Mr. Monaghan worked for Sears for 30 years and also repaired small engines in his shop at home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth (Diane) Kenyon, Minn., and Wayne “Point” (Diane) of Waterloo; three daughters, Joan (Terry) Stoner and Kelly (Dan) King, both of Hudson, and Dawn Monaghan-Dennis of Cedar Rapids; three stepsons, Pete (Rose) Saulsbury of Pittsboro, N.C., Kevin Saulsbury of Cedar Rapids and Tyler Saulsbury of Washburn; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; a brother, Leonard (Shirley) of Manchester; and a sister, Rosemary (Ray) MacMahon of Richardson, Texas.

Preceded in death by a son, John R.; and a sister, Cecilia Van Vooren.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, with military rites by Hudson AMVETS Post 82. Burial will be in Hudson Cemetery following cremation. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Saturday morning at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer Association.
