HUDSON, Iowa - Joan Elizabeth Babinat, 77, of Hudson, died Wednesday, June 27, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of respiratory failure.

She was born April 9, 1935, in Waverly, daughter of James and Alice Driscoll Zwanziger. She married Adolph Babinat on Aug. 17, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waverly.

Mrs. Babinat graduated from Plainfield High School in 1953. She was employed by Iowa Mutual Insurance, Cedar Rapids, and later with Viking Pump, Cedar Falls. She also farmed with her husband.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Cheryl (Luther) Philpott; two grandsons, Hunter and Tanner; and a sister, Jane (John K.) Jones of Cedar Falls.

Services will be Monday at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Eagle Center, with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck, Iowa.

Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, where there will be a 5 p.m. scriptural rosary, followed by a time of sharing. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, Waterloo, is assisting the family.

Joan enjoyed square dancing, baking, sending cards for any occasion and visiting with her friends over coffee. Her grandsons loved her cookies and brownies and called her the cookie lady. She also loved taking care of others, putting everyone else ahead of herself. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
