GENEVA — Wesley J. Schloemer, 78, of Geneva, formerly of La Porte City, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.

He was born June 11, 1933, in Hampton, son of Clarence and Gladys Colby Schloemer. He married Virginia Ralls on Nov. 26, 1961, in South Sioux City, Neb. She died Aug. 13, 1985. He married Faye Cockrun on Nov. 9, 1989, in Missouri.

He graduated from Waverly High School, attended Wartburg College, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Schloemer worked as a supervisor at John Deere for 27 years, retiring in 1987.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Doug Schloemer of Colorado, Randy and John Schloemer, both of Waterloo, Wayne Thrasher of Holt, Mo.; six daughters, Gina (Jeff) Frost, Chris Anne (Jeff) Roberts and Charlotte (Richard) Bronner, all of La Porte City, Kathy Shinn of Washington, Sandy (Ken) Bell of Wellsburg and Shary (Joe) Tecklenburg of Dysart; 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack (Ida) of Nashua.

Graveside services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at West View Cemetery, La Porte City, with military rites conducted by La Porte City American Legion USS San Diego Post 207 and VFW Post 3983. La Porte City Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
