Orval K. Van Lengen (1931-2009)

CEDAR FALLS- Orval K. Van Lengen, 78, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 27, 1931 in Aplington, Iowa, the son of Ben and Dena (Hemmen) Van Lengen. He married JoAnn Van Deest on August 1, 1952 in El Paso, TX.

Mr. Van Lengen served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a meat cutter with Piggly Wiggly and then with Eagles Supermarket. He was later self employed until his retirement in 2003.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; two sons, Kenneth (Beth) of Parkersburg and Darrell (Timi) of Olathe, KS; two daughters, Vonice (Tom) Hoffman of Jesup, and Sonja (Tim) Bodine of Waverly; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Verne Van Lengen of Waverly.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Rose Van Lengen; one grandson, Trenton Van Lengen; a brother, Bennie Van Lengen; and a sister, Hattie Pruisner.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Bible Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Military Honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.

A memorial has been established and will be designated at a later date.
