Rose S. Shauer (1923-2009)

Rose Schauer passed away Thursday morning, Sept 10th at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. Rose was born to Russian Immigrant parents, John & Elizabeth Chasky, September 30th, 1923. She spent most of her growing up years living on the east side of Waterloo, where she worked in the family store, Ann's Fountain, on the corner of East 4th & Adams.

Rose married Ernie Schauer February 23rd, 1946. In 1951, they moved to Cedar Falls and lived on Belle Avenue for more than 40 years. Rose worked at Rath Packing, sliced bacon dept, for more than 30 years, retiring in 1979. Ernie preceded her in death in 1986.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Ron Sandkamp) of Janesville, Iowa, and granddaughter, Erin (Dan Whitney) of Washington DC. She is also survived by her sister, Ann, of Waterloo and brother, John, of Traer, Iowa.

A "Family" is a Circle of Friends who love you. Rose was so blessed to move to the Western Home's Stanard Center Assisted Living, once she was diagnosed with cancer. The Western Home staff became her "family" showing her such love & compassion & care while she battled this painful disease. She called her caregivers, "her angels". We will be forever grateful for their strength & grace.

Hospice entered her life in January & her "Circle of Friends" again grew. She was once more treated with such respect & compassion.

There will be no services for Rose. Her daughter and granddaughter ask that you remember Rose's memory by touching someone with your love.

Memorials, in Rose's name, should be directed to the Western Home, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
