CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Maurice L. Alderman, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of cancer.

He was born December 29, 1922, in Winthrop, son of Earl and Emma Hansen Alderman. He married Arda Alderman on April 5, 1942, at Grace Brethren Church, Waterloo. She died February 26, 2010.

Mr. Alderman graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1941 and served in the Solomon Islands during World War II as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. He began working as a machinist at Construction Machinery Co., retiring as general manager in 1986. He was a member of Valley View Baptist Church.

Survived by two daughters, Linda (Roger) Benning of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Janna (John) Thierman of Waterloo: two sons, Daniel (Jackie) of Higgens Lake, Mich., and Kevin (Roxanne) of Urbandale; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth; and a sister, Helen Pearce.

Preceded in death by a brother, Gerald; and a sister, Wilma Alvin.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. April 21 at the Western Home Chapel, 420 E. 11th St., Cedar Falls.

Memorials may be directed to the Western Home Foundation or Cedar Valley Hospice.
