WATERLOO - Robert J. "Bob" Leatherman Sr., 75, of Waterloo, died Sunday, March 25, at Covenant Medical Center after a traffic accident.

He was born April 12, 1936, in Waterloo, son of Rayford and Wilma Bingham Leatherman. He married Joan Ann DellaVentura. They later divorced. He married Alice L. Newell Nov. 11, 1968, in Galena, Ill. She died July 22, 2009.

He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954, and later attended Central Falls Trade School in Rhode Island. He served in U.S. Navy. Mr. Leatherman was a machinist at John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He also was a UAW Steward for 838, and member of Central Christian Church and American Legion Post 138.

Survived by two sons, Robert (Staci) of San Antonio and Jim of Waterloo; a daughter, Lori (Steve) Harvey of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Susan Kerr of Ankeny; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Jo, Amy, Matt, Sara, Nic, Libby and Aly; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Jaxson; and a sister, Doris (Ralph) Hocken of La Porte City.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery with military rites by Waterloo American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.
