HUDSON - The funeral of the late George Walter, a prominent pioneer farmer of Black Hawk County, who died at his home in Hudson on Saturday afternoon after a three weeks struggle with apoplexy, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Baptist Church, by the German Lutheran pastor, Rev. Mr. Melchert, assisted by Rev. Mr. Mueller of Waterloo. The body will be taken to waterloo and will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery.

Deceased who was well known throughout the county and who owned over 340 acres of land near Hudson, was born September 24, 1839, in Saxe-Colburg, Germany, being the son of Henry and Anna Margaret (Faber) Walter. The father died in Germany but the mother came to America and passed away in Illinois in 1874.

George Walter was sixteen years of age when he accompanied his mother to America. He lived in Mendota, La Salle County, Illinois until 1884, and successfully owned and operated 160 acres of land at this place until he came to Black Hawk County. In 1865, Mr. Walter was united in marriage with Maggie Billhorn. who was also born in Germany. To this union ten children were born, all of whom survive the father. The children are: Mrs. J. K. Hetzler, Rawlins, Wyo.; Henry Walter, Lealand, Ore.; Mrs. A. C. Mueller, near Denver, Iowa; Mrs. C. H. Mantle, Waterloo; John Walter, Selukive, Africa; Mrs. J. D. Hill, near Fairbank; Mrs. Z. A.
