CEDAR FALLS — Gerald L. Lund, 76, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, March 31, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, surrounded by his family.

Gerald was born in Rapid City, S.D., on April 27, 1935, to Raymond and Ruby Lund. He married Helen Short on June 17, 1962, in Lincoln, Ill.

Gerald graduated from South Dakota State College in 1957 with a BS in civil engineering. He then spent the next six months in the U.S. Army before being hired by the Iowa Department of Transportation. He retired as the Resident Construction Engineer in 2001 after 44 years with the state.

Gerald was actively involved in Cedar Falls Church of Christ, Dike Lions Club, and served in various church and community leadership positions and activities.

Survivors include his Helen, his wife of 49 years; his children: Ken and Kim Lund of Maple Grove, Minn., Alberto and Robyn Rivas of Marshalltown, Karla and Ben Cachiaras of Fallston, Md., Valarie and David Peterson of Marshalltown, and Marsha and John Taplin of Alexandria, Minn.; his grandchildren, Mariah, Zachary and Carson Lund, Abigail, Jonathon, Lynnette and Lori Rivas, Nathan, Andrew and Ellie Cachiaras, Stephen, Jessie, and Christopher Peterson, and Jake Taplin; and his brothers, Raymond (Dorothy) Lund of Michigan and Lowell (Lenora) Lund of Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter Lynette Rivas.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Falls Church of Christ, with luncheon following at RiversEdge Christian Church, Waterloo. Burial will following in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Visitation will be at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3.

Memorials may be directed to Northeast Iowa Christian Service Camp, Cedar Falls Church of Christ, or the Christian Dominican Evangelistic Mission.
