WATERLOO — John T. "Jack" Peterson, 84, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 28, at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls, of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Waterloo, son of Irvine F. and Louise Eidem Peterson. He married Patricia Ann McMullen on Sept. 22, 1956, in Waterloo. She died Jan. 20, 1995.

Mr. Peterson graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1946 and Grinnell College in 1952. He was co-owner of Waterloo Insurance Agency, retiring in 1991, and also was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a diesel submarine radar operator. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Downtown Rotary Club for more than 20 years, Elks Club and the Independent Insurance Agents Association.

Survived by two sons, Ted of Waterloo and Steven of Sparks, Nev.; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Peterson of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Anne (Steve) Wilmoth of Iowa City, Tyler Peterson of Auburn, Ala., and Katie, Jeff and Erin Peterson, all of Indianola; and two great-grandchildren, P.J. and Stevie Rose Peterson, both of Iowa City.

Preceded in death by a son, David; and a sister, Joan Peterson.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Friday at Elmwood Cemetery, with burial in the cemetery. Locke Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity American Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
