WATERLOO - Rachel R. Patterson, 92, of 904 Beech St., died Sunday, March 18, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born May 6, 1919, in Ackerman, Miss., daughter of the Rev. Garland and Pearlie Ann Potts Robinson. She married the Rev. Elick Patterson on July 24, 1937, in Ackerman. He died in November 2000.

Mrs. Patterson was a co-founder of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and was instrumental in organizing the Waterloo Citywide Mission.

Survived by two daughters, Naomi Sisk of Waterloo and Barbara Flakes of San Antonio; four sons, Bill (Barbara) of Silver Springs, Md., Garland (Sarah) of Roslyn, Pa., Amos (Chanbok) of Augusta, Ga., and Ralph (Zelda) of South Orange, N.J.; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Smith of Arlington, Texas.

Preceded in death by five brothers, Royal, Russell, Raymond, Robert and Roby; and seven sisters, Ruby, Roberta, Rosie, Rowena, Ricie, Reatha and Reona.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Payne Memorial AME Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, and for an hour before services Saturday at Payne Memorial. Sanders Funeral Service is assisting with arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 904 Beech St., where they will receive friends.

Rachel was greatly involved in mission work throughout the district, state and national conventions.
